When it comes to the construction of a wet room, the correct drainage and sealant is so important. The last thing you want the is water getting trapped under the tiles, causing them to lift, or leaks to develop through ceilings and walls.
The initial stage of installing a wet room professionally is to ensure that the water all runs straight to the drain. The floor must gradually slope into a gentle and even gradient. This is particularly relevant when renovating an old room. The existing timber floors have to sit level with the wet room tray, so the floor has to be raised to sit flush with the top of the tray.
The room is then tanked, all wooden floors will be trimmed and specialised waterproof tape is applied to any joins or penetrable areas. The floors and walls are then sealed with a thick waterproof membrane. Once all these areas have been fully sealed and covered, the whole room is then ready to be tiled using a water proof adhesive and grouted. Silicon is applied to all edges and corners to create a final seal.
The look of these rooms is beautiful and elegant and can definitely change your home and way of living. To keep your room warm, we usually recommend underfloor heating that would be installed under the tiles and protected by the water proof membrane.
